You can't pick your family!

Letter From The Editor
by Kelly Caldwell

This time of year is always my favorite because nature is alive again not to mention its almost time for lake season!

I know most of you think of seasons as spring, summer, fall and winter, but for me it’s either lake season or it’s not… Lake season means friends come back and we get to spend every weekend (and sometimes weekdays) enjoying the waters of Lake Wedowee.

There are more activities this time of year and numerous memories are made every season.
As most of my friends and family know, I am usually behind the lens of a camera when events are happening, capturing those moments in time that we look back and enjoy. However, being friends with me does have its consequences.

I have thousands of pictures from more than five lake seasons and my family and friends never know when a picture might show up in the pages of this magazine. This issue is a prime example of it. We needed a few pictures to finish things up and what do you know I had just the right ones…

I also need to say that I have the best friends and family in the world. They are good sports about being chronicled in Lake Wedowee Life and my nephews have literally grown up in front of all of you. I think for the first year, Luke appeared in the magazine so much that we nicknamed him Lake Wedowee Life Boy… And guess what, he returns to the pages in this very issue.

On another note, I wouldn’t be a good daughter if I didn’t mention that special day in May (Mother’s Day.) And, actually  in my family there are two special days… My mom’s birthday is May 25 (no I won’t say how old she will be) so basically the whole month of May is celebrating Leisel Caldwell for us.

We have grown to more than a typical mother daughter relationship. We are business partners, family and most important...friends. She might not always have the right words to say but she always has my back! She instilled in her three daughters at an early age to work hard for what you want and you will get it. Two of us are college-educated professional women and the third is currently working on her PhD in higher education at the University of Alabama. (Roll Tide and yes, we will have a Dr. Caldwell soon)

We all joke about growing up, but when it comes down to it all the trials, tribulations and fish sticks we endured made us who we are today! We couldn’t have done it without her and I know we don’t say it enough. So in honor of Mother’s Day and her birthday… Thank you Leisel Caldwell for being you and making me the person I am! I love you!
